BAPTISM

Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: “Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word.” (CCC 1213)

Baptisms of infants and young children

The child’s initiation into the Roman Catholic Church begins when parents attend a Baptism preparation class. Parents must be registered members of  one of the  Sheboygan South Catholic Parishes, and commit to the responsibility of raising their child as a Catholic.

The Baptism Preparation Class for parents is designed to familiarize them with the history of baptism and to reflect on the Faith of their child. Parents will also learn about the liturgy so they are comfortable when the baptism takes place. Both parents are asked to attend.

The classes are typically held approximately once a month, on a Wednesday evening at 7 pm. Attendance at one class is required in order to have your child baptized.
